Could there possibly be a link between Envy and Jealousy (sin rooted in covetousness), Fear (sin rooted in the absence of faith) and Osteoporosis?
What is Osteoporosis?
According to the Merck Manual (Physician’s Handbook): “Osteoporosis is a progressive metabolic bone disease that decreases bone density (bone mass per unit volume), with deterioration of bone structure. Skeletal weakness leads to fractures with minor or inapparent trauma, particularly in the thoracic and lumbar spine, wrist, and hip (called fragility fractures).”
See definition source.
Does the Bible or Scriptures refer to the deterioration of bone tissue?
Proverbs 14:30 says:
30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.
Habakkuk 3:16 says:
16 When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops.
Both of the scriptures above, according to the Strong’s Concordance #H7538, rottenness refers to decay (by caries), and is rooted further in #H7537 to decay or rot (as by worm eating).
What is an area for exploration with Holy Spirit around our ways of thinking that is contrary to the way that God thinks, speaks, or acts?
Covetousness is a sin in not following one of the Lord’s 10 commandments in Exodus 20:17, which says:
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
These commandments still apply to mankind today, old covenant or new covenant. Jesus said in His own words in John 14:15:
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Covetousness, rooted in lust (whatever you set your desires or affections upon). Mark 7:21-23 says:
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
Also, Proverbs 16:24 says:
24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
Fear is a sin, rooted in the lack of faith. Romans 14:23, referring to faith, says:
23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
The Bible is very clear about fear, it is frequently mentioned and we are warned not to fear habitually. Fear is a spirit, and not just an emotion or emotional state. 2 Timothy 1:7 says:
7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Fear can be real or perceived. Fear, if continually and chronically entertained, can also affect the way you think, and the way your body responds to your ways of thinking.
Fear can even affect and/or destroy your immune system using the body’s release of Cortisol via our hypothalamus gland (brain of our endocrine system) !
See Fear Response (Fight or Flight), General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS).
