Won’t I be rejected if I admit I have sin?

(Henry Wright) This becomes a big problem when people don’t want to look at sin because they feel guilty. They feel unworthy because in our society and our families and even our churches, the basis of acceptance is that you don’t do anything wrong. You’ve got to perform. Anything that’s in our life that would be negative is a basis for rejection. So the big battle ground is feeling unworthy, rejected, guilty, unclean, and unworthy. God didn’t put that on us because He obviously saved us when we were really goofy. So the decision for salvation was made in heaven, and we accepted that; however when we get to talking about negative things in people’s lives, there’s a wrestling that comes because now we feel like we’re going to be rejected…

Paul in Romans 6 said — Do we sin more that grace might more abound…? God forbid.

15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

Romans 6:15 KJV

Even though God hates sin, He has made provision for it. We haven’t made provision for it. Others haven’t made provision for it. So in ministry, when we see these issues in people’s lives, and when you say, “Well, it’s just my issues”, to us that means there is a sin you’re participating with. Rather than come and say, “Oh, you unworthy old no-good thing, how dare you participate with sin?” That’s not how this works. God didn’t work with us that way, so let’s go back again to 2 Timothy 2 — that the servant of the Lord must not strive, must be gentle unto all men… patient, in meekness instructing…

24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25 ln meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

2 Timothy 2:24-26 KJV

So this comes not by a wrong spirit. There are churches that are very legalistic, and they’ll hold up righteousness and use it as a weapon. I learned a long time ago about teaching righteousness. I can’t kill people with truth because I’m just going to have to raise them from the dead and teach them all over again, so save one step here. Okay?

If you’re listening and you have issues which should bring you to the need for tissues, then that’s what repentance is. Don’t go down under this and bristle up and say, “Well, he’s into legalism because he’s talking about sin”.

The issue is that when you have a problem in your life or even a disease, you go to your doctor to find out what the issues are, and then you want him to fix you. We don’t have a bit of problem with a dentist fixing a cavity. We don’t have a bit of problem with the doctor telling us this and that. But we have a big problem when somebody comes along and shows us something wrong spirituality.

Our battle, our war, is not against flesh and blood, but against invisible forces.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Ephesians 6:12 KJV

Satan is called the accuser of the brethren, and we’ve not done well, beginning with our families, in love.

10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

Revelation 12:10 KJV

Then we come into our businesses, and who you are is how well you do. We’re a performance society.

Our value should come from the Bible. Our value is not in what we do. Our value is in who God saw (us to be) from the foundation of the world. A lot of people go into rejection since they feel inferior because somebody has judged them to be inferior. It can be external or they can have it from within. They can have thoughts that come from within that reject them. Then we also get into it sometimes in our churches. We’re so busy putting on Jesus that we forgot to take the rust off. So all we do is put more and more Jesus on. We dress up in more and more self-righteousness because we’re supposed to look a certain way, act a certain way, and talk a certain way. We don’t know that we haven’t been changed on the inside. Then the real accusation and real inferiority both come because now the enemy is accusing us. So in ministry we are helping people see the issues of the sin of which disease is the fruit. We also have to go to some areas they don’t want to talk about.
