We look at family trees. Let’s talk about King David. He went into adultery and got a married woman pregnant. This was a man after God’s own heart. He had a man killed on the front lines to cover the sin, and then when Nathan the prophet confronted him about his sin, he began to repent to God. He said — In sin my mother did conceive me. Behold I was shapen in iniquity.
5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Psalms 51:5 KJV
David was saying that he had thoughts that followed him in his family tree and came into him in the womb. We see that this is true because of King David’s own children. One of his sons raped his own sister. Look at Solomon. Can you imagine keeping 1000 females happy. There was something within the guy that couldn’t be satisfied.
Paul said — with the knowledge of law came the knowledge of sin.
20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Romans 3:20 KJV
The beginning of the law in the Torah is in Exodus 20. It says the iniquity of the fathers shall be passed on to the third and fourth generation of them that hate me… but blessings to thousands.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
Exodus 20:5-6 KJV
But 430 years before the law you have the father of faith, a friend of God, Abraham, who was a liar. He had fear. He taught his wife to lie. Then his son was a liar because Isaac and Rebecca lied to Abemilech just like his daddy did when he said that his wife was not his wife, but that she was his sister. Then you have the collusion between Rebecca and Isaac with the deception, and Jacob with the deception of Isaac. Next there were the ten sons of Jacob deceiving their father in the issue of Joseph. Now you have four generations of liars, and this is identified in scripture. David is identifying it in Psalm 51. In Exodus 20 it is being identified in the law which is identifying sin. So part of my thinking was how my father used to think and my grandfather as well. How did that get into me? Rebellion is bound up in the heart of the child.
15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
Proverbs 22:15 KJV
It’s a shock to us to find our little babies and children growing up and starting to do evil things. It’s a shock how this innocent child can end up being this rebel. That’s the stuff that forms our personalities, but it didn’t come from God.
Ten million people in America have social anxiety or social phobia, which is fear of man. They all think the same way because they’ve been trained by sin to think that way. They follow those thoughts as though they were their own psychology. That becomes known as negative emotions or psychological defects. I don’t have to follow any thought that doesn’t match God’s mind.
